What can be a better place to blog than my cubicle at work? All the applications that I generally need are up, have an headphone plugged, client right behind me, boss unaware and not bothered about my work and on top of that a phone that supports blogging!
I almost certainly think about blogging everyday and then get carried away with lot of things that either had no priority or come in suddenly and take the prime spot. Social media is another time killer which takes precedence and eats up a significant amount of time. The idea for execution is now to blog using my phone (this is already sounding like I will not be doing it). Got a nice cool app for WordPress on my phone which works good and gives almost all the controls as the website does. I have been fortunate to get all the resources to do what I have always wished for in terms of technology or communication and then when it is time to execute, I loose interest. I think the lack of discipline is one of the biggest catalyst for not getting things done at the right time and giving undue importance to unnecessary tasks! Another attempt to spend time where I wish to and not getting carried away.

Why Blame India?

Every news channel and newspaper around the world are talking about the rise in crude oil prices and the prices of the food grain. Looking at the current scenario no doubt India is consuming but it does not mean to say that the consumption levels have gone so high that the US is unable to withstand the rise in prices. The US Prez blatantly blames India for having adopted a higher standard of living and hence the rise is attributed. I recently went through an article which gave a clear cut position of India and the US in terms of consumption of food grains.

India in the last year has added another 20mn people and the percentage change in the consumption has gone by just 2.17%. Now does it mean that an average middle class family’s standard of living in India has increased to that an extent that the rise in the food prices can be attributed to India. For that matter look at China, it has added only 1.8% in its consumption levels. Even though these 2 countries compete in terms of population but the level of consumption is almost the same. Now if I have to question back the US, how on earth is US seeing a growth of 11.81% ? This is approx. 6 times the growth in India in food grain consumption levels.

The numbers are here to speak and I wish that higher officials better have their numbers ready before making a public statement and thereby creating a chaos all over the world.

I was thrilled and excited to join the company for which I was recruited after my campus placements. A fat pay package, good perks, recognition of the brand in the industry, more responsibilities, great career path, good growth prospects within the organization and of-course the curiosity to know the designation and role given to me at the start of my career. I was making plans as to how would I organically grow within the organization and develop the skill sets which would eventually increase my market value. Never did I expect that I will be in a big mess like this.

I joined in the month of May and the first time I entered the workplace I was all excited and the excitement went to that extent where I literally had goose bumps. That excitement did not last long. I was taken into a room with many others and was given a session about the businesses in the organization. All this was good until I discovered that the unit manager allotted to me had no no idea that I was recruited for his unit. Now, that was too hard to believe when the same person said ”I was unaware of the fact that you were joining this unit. Now that you have joined we will try to provide you with something you can work on”. I was baffled with such a comment made and suddenly it occurred to me as if I am going to end up in some deep shit… “Manaki mundey shani-devta top nundee manchi influence kadaa, aaiyana chusi natu unnaru, inka tapadu kadaa, thathasthu annesaaru” (in Telugu)

Since that day to till date I have not been in a position to figure out what am I doing in office and I am scared as to how long this phase would continue. Presently, I am glad that I could make some progress in terms of getting into the city which I wanted to be in… The real hunt starts here… However I feel like screaming at the top of my voice questioning “Can you tell me what is my role?” If someone up there is listening to my concern, then please answer them!!

At the end of 17th Over, after Harbhajan was smashed for 3 sixes by Misbah-Ul-Haq in that over, Pakistan inched closer to victory needing 35 runs of 18 balls and captain Dhoni without much choice had to get in Sreesanth to attack.

During the 18th over, Sreesanth got picked even by the Pak tailender for a six and the match suddenly started going away from India’s hands as Pak needed only 20 runs of 12 balls. In this format of the game (20-20) 20 runs is usually scored of 4 balls, so 12 balls were actually a boon to Pakistan.

Come 19th over and very dependable RP Singh comes to the party and he displays his fantastic bowling effort again by taking a wicket. However, Pakistan needed only 13 runs of 6 balls.

The moment it was decided that the last over was to be bowled by Joginder Singh, all my friends sitting beside me started swearing at everyone from the Captain to the entire team with the feeling of losing the match.

Jogi, bowls the first ball and it goes way ward wide outside the off stump, seemed very directionless and 1 run to Pak’s account. So the stats were 12 runs of 6 balls.
Now, in the the 1st ball of the 20th over, Misbah missed the ball and then it just started to show that the pressure was really very high on the field among the players.
2nd Ball: Bam!!! SIX… All hopes dashed. “India has lost now, F*** the team, very bad performance, India always does this in the finals”
3rd Ball: Misbah-Ul-Haq all set to fire his cylinders to blow away that ball for a SIX… Not so experienced Jogi running in to bowl… 99% of the Indian viewers expecting a six from Misbah’s bat and 100% Pakistani’s expecting the victory and sighting a big celebration… I dont know what was running in Jogi’s mind… “should I bowl in the block hole?” or “do i bowl him a full toss?” or “hope this guy does not hit this for a six”.. irrespective of what was going on everyone’s mind but there was an adrenaline rush among everyone of them who was watching the match live… and I for one moment trying to shut my eyes and then trying to see with half open eyes, not wanting to see India getting belted in the finals of a world cup…

And suddenly Misbah tries to pull of a stunt by walking across the off stump and guide the ball in the air in the fine leg region for a six……. ah!!! wait it was not a six… infact he was caught!!!! India wins the match in the most dramatic way ever.. how would anyone associate such kind of luck with the Indian team ever…. the entire place around me blasted into celebration.. people forgetting that they were at the work place started climbing the tables and howling for India in the most disgusting voice ever.. but who cares ‘coz even I was in the same state… the crowd went jubiliant and all my friends watching the match started hugging each other as though we were very influential in turning the match’s result in India’s favour… but again who cares, its the patriotic feeling which each and everyone of us share and yes an Indian victory is our victory… I am definitely very proud of this young Indian Team and my country India… Mera Bharat Mahan

Embarrassing Moments… This is top on my charts..

How embarrassing this could get?? Recently I was on a roll buying hell lot of books from Landmark, which has a “up-to 60%” sale offer and I wanted to buy all the books that could come into my mind so as to make maximum out of this sale. On the 3rd day, suddenly I remember the name of this book and off I go to buy this book. While on the way to landmark I was thinking which are the other ones to buy and WHAM!!! I was walking with such brisk pace that even without noticing that Landmark’s entrance has a glass door which opens automatically I dashed into this glass door so hard even the security did not know how to react… There were few hundreds of people in that area and here I go trying to hide myself from these people walking straight into the book section and guess what?? There were 2 of my colleagues who had watched all the action live and started laughing out loud….Well, like everyone does, I tried defending by saying “I was thinking about something, did not realise there is a door”and diplomatically changed the topic… All in all I was so embarrassed that I bought the book and went back to my office without wasting any moment. And the same evening when I remembered another book, I was very conscious while entering that same god damn door!!!

I am dejected :(

I am very dejected with my dismal performance. I scored 650 and thats no way getting me into my dream B-School…. Thinking about solutions to this issue, I have taken a decision to take another shot at the GMAT. I have picked up the date and have registered as well. Its time for introspection now. I have to analyze my weakness and work accordingly. All in all a very dismal show… I am dejected
